Presently known as University Rajasthan College the premium institution was initially named Government Rajasthan College and was established in 1957. The object and the vision of late Shri Mohanlal Sukhadia, the then Chief Minister, Government of Rajasthan behind the establishment of the college was to develop this college as a nursery for preparing the students for administrative services. In 1962, late Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister, Government of India visited this college. Eventually in the same year this premier college of the state was merged into the University of Rajasthan. In July 1962, the college was handed over to the University of Rajasthan and since then it has been a constituent college of the University. Initially, from 1962 to 1972, it was a post-graduate college which was converted into University Rajasthan College for undergraduate Arts/Social Science/ Humanities studies.
